The Astrology of the 2022 Freedom Convoy

As I lean in close and try to tune in, all I hear are marching boots. I can’t tell if they belong to the police, to the RCMP, to the freedom fighters, to the children, to the nearby residents, to the slowing businesses or to the politicians. It’s the rolling tires of the united multitudes of the 2022 truck convoy that I’m hearing. Yes, the sound of the chaos that, necessarily, precipitates revolution. 

In short, this is hella confusing. What is the best route? What would provide and restore dignity all around? What does “fairness” and justice look like in a situation like this one? 

Certainly my grandmother who passed of covid in late December should have not done so in the absence of her encircled tribe due solely to “restrictions”.  Quality of life and the required risks must arrive at some sort of equilibrium, otherwise prudence will most definitely cast a cold shadow over life’s most meaningful moments. On the other side of that, we are all acquainted with someone who is immunocompromised and depends on mandates and restrictions to maintain their sense of security. If you’ve been on FB at all during the last 2 years (if you haven’t, you’re surely better for it) you’ve been privy to the expressing of anger towards the unvaccinated populace. When it seems that your health can be so largely influenced by someone’s decision to not receive a medical treatment, and they knowingly make that choice, it feels like a downright personal attack. 

Stalemate. 

The “Us” vs. “Them” of restrictions

How the 2022 Truck Convoy is highlighting the social divisions that were created throughout the pandemic

Sure, restrictions are lifting, but the divide remains. Currently, in Calgary, despite the removal of the mandatory pass, an individual is not able to attend most Ticketmaster events without submitting to the “health check” of the venue, which circles us right back to where we were 16 days ago in the streets of DT Ottawa (Or is it 17 now?).

The use of language to define social groupings and allegiances

You’ll notice that I put a hyphen between “con” and “voy” at the very top of this post. This was not a clever play on words, but rather an attempt to evade the cens.oring that has been unleashed with a fury not only on the FB platform (where this article was first published), but also on the news, on YT, on radio etc. etc. Interestingly enough, the term “con” has to do with robbing or trickery, and the word “voy” has to do with seeing something and with visibility. Ahh, the irony. FB groups with members in the 100,000’s are being deleted. Using certain terminology (I don’t mean swear words or hateful terms, I mean words like “free.dom” and “con.voy” and “tr.uth” and “h.on.k”) can get you flagged, banned or both online, or worse- thrown in the 30 day slammer where you can observe content but not comment. Videos deleted. Monies shifting from campaign group to campaign group to cryptocurrency. Researching the objective truth of the unfolding events will prove futile as each group reports the situation from a perspective that is largely biased, value based and oppositional. It feels like a live action game of Whack-A-Mole…or a downtown Ottawa game of convoy truck Tetris, if you will.

So, how can we see through the fog of the current events to understand what is unfolding, and how to live with inner peace amidst the outer chaos?

 

Pluto and the dissolution of social structures

Astrologically speaking, Pluto has returned to its forward motion at 27 degrees of Capricorn, conjunct Mercury at 26 degrees. In Capricorn, we are dealing with issues related to social structures, hierarchy and the way that we’ve organized and managed society up until now. Pluto’s presence in Capricorn signals us to the breaking down of the social structures (Capricorn) that have been keeping everything in it’s place up until now. It has to do with power and how our attachments cause us to feel both empowerment and disempowerment. When the energies of Mercury and Pluto meld together in a conjunction, we see issues of power (Pluto) related to communication (Mercury); and yes, that is absolutely a reference to the cen.sorship that seems to be going on everywhere. You’ve probably noticed that there are now new Voldemort topics (you know, you just don’t say it) that 2 years ago would have been no big deal. Pluto’s energy is hidden and below the surface, so with Mercury this can also bring out secrets and things that have been hidden from view. Mercury’s energy is at home in the 3rd house in the natural zodiac, which also has to do with peers and siblings. Personally, I am seeing this correlation come about through the mass gatherings of “regular, everyday people”. People who are “peers” in the grander social structure coming together and, quite frankly, dodging the power moves (Pluto) of the people “in charge”. The 2022 truck convoy set up in Ottawa is currently stocked with food for all of the people (an incredible feat, you can’t deny), professional stages for shows, audio systems, bouncy castles for the kids, lawyers to back any legal issues, and an impressive underground team that seems to be quietly encouraging the people, and orchestrating the logistics of this massive undertaking. So much so, in fact, that all over the world additional groups are gathering in like fashion. I watched a video just the other morning of a fu.el truck being escorted into the con-voy, both proceeded and preceded by other semi trucks. The frustration is real enough to have the man “in charge” walk out of parliam.ent meetings; it must be infuriating to have a title that suggests authority, and yet 0 ability to act on said authority, both logistically and/ or through smarts. That’s not a knock at  the mental capacity of said person, but rather an acknowledgement of the power of the multitude when they join together. Check out the health care system at current. Think back to the shutdown of all the schools not that long ago. Peep the political mess that is seeping out of the gates at parliament hill. Consider all the people that you know who have lost jobs or are now working from home. Playgroups shut down. Recreation shut down or restricted. Restaurants and small businesses suffering. These are the “buildings” in the “villages” of our daily lives that are being demo’d by Pluto. Fortunately, the objective of this energy is not to bulldoze and walk away, but to bulldoze, clean up the rubble, and begin building a structure that is more fitting and appropriate for how the “building” will be used moving forwards. This might look like moving a storefront to an online business (the “dissolution” (Pluto) of the physical space, but access to a larger demographic for sales), or cancelling in person meetings, and having regional meetings over zoom because its cheaper, safer and more efficient. We’ve seen the world step forward using the intuitive brilliance of Uranus to set up systems like online shopping and grocery delivery and Skip the Dishes. Imagine how slow moving that process would have been had we all had the option to just continue going to the store at will. 

Uranus square Saturn: ongoing theme for 2022

One of the big and ongoing astrological themes of 2022 is the square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus (currently at 16 and 11 degrees, respectively). The square is a tense and dynamic aspect; I like to think of it as a collision between 2 cars moving both 90 degrees towards each other at equal speed; action needs to be taken because they will most definitely collide at some point.  Saturn represents tradition. You know, the “good old days, when we would walk 5 miles to school”. That tenuous, arduous, committed labour that follows a certain prescribed order and does what it’s told. Uranus, on the other side of that square, represents innovation. An abrupt fracturing of what was to move with intuition and innovation towards a vision of the new. So Saturn says “let us return to the order we had previously, we will tell you how it should be done and you will follow our instructions”, and Uranus replies with a “Naw. Let us try this new way over here. We’ll gather together as a group united by resonance and make it happen.” The 2022 truck convoy is just one example of this occurence…there are grassroots movements full of people wanting to do things differently popping up all over. It’ll take a little digging to find them, but once you do, you’ll discover that there is a whole underground network of likeminded- change driven folk.

Uranus’ presence in Taurus tells us about the unifying of groups (Uranus also has to do with connection to groups and to one’s tribe) relative to VALUES (Taurus = values, survival, physical needs) This is where it gets juicy and circles back to the rage towards “those unvaccinated and selfish idiots”, and the opposing rage towards “those tyrants who dare revoke one’s rights to medical freedoms and bodily autonomy”. The choice that someone has made to take or not take whatever medical intervention is a reflection of their values, not of their beliefs regarding the value of yours or anyone else’s life. Public gatherings, recreation, longterm employment, bodily autonomy, freedom to travel and move about, medical freedom… Of course we all value all of these things to differing degrees, but what it comes down to, inevitably, is what do you value MOST. By choosing some, you are excluding others, necessarily. And what are you willing to pay (not just money) to maintain your freedom to exercise that value? 

So this energy is putting tremendous pressure on us to clarify what our values are and establish new patterns in our lives that are reflective of said values. It is providing us an opportunity to see with which groups we resonate, and to work together within said groups to build spaces that provide affirmation and warmth and growth.

In short, as far as our personal lives go, its not about the “others”, its about understanding our own empowerment through making HARD CHOICES that reflect our understanding of our own sovereignty in our lives and are in line with our value system…and in response connecting with likeminded communities (think grassroots movements), with the understanding that its about resonance, not about being right or wrong.

Yes, even in the midst of mandates and restrictions. In fact, especially in the midst of mandates and restrictions.

In addition to the Pluto/ Mercury conjunction we’ve also got going on:

-Jupiter in Pisces trining the moon in Cancer: deep confusion regarding our beliefs and connection to the world, connected to a sentiment of personal identity and “family”.

-Venus/ Mars conjunct in Capricorn: an understanding of one’s needs paired with appropriate action to build structures that support said needs 

-Pluto conjunction trine North Node in Taurus: this is a big one, the nodes. This aspect shows us the connection between the current power struggle and the movement of humanity towards self-sustainment.

I watch snippets of this story on our planet unfold from many angles, attempting to maintain the detachment that I employ when I’m feeling emotional but need to decide using reason. I don’t know how it will unfold, but what I do know is that freedom isn’t free.

No matter where you stand, in these last 2 years you’ve absolutely “paid” to sustain or maintain your most important values. People will claim angrily to their “opposition” that they’ve been exceptionally affected, not realizing that no one has been untouched by what’s been going on in these last couple years and we’ve ALL been making tough decisions.

Not too long ago I was blasted by a hurt, afraid and angry woman. She had no idea that I am both a health care worker, and have been closely touched outside of work by c.v.1.9. Maybe it would be “nice” to go back to how it was before the pan.demic, however that place no longer exists. Too much has happened and people have seen and changed too much for things to simply reestablish themselves in an identical way to how it was.

How the Truck Convoy is leading us to define personal values

What we are calling “division” is, in fact, a hidden doorway to our most sacred values (Taurus). It’s time to get curious because you’ve given up life in defence of these values, and trust, we need them all, despite what the “opposing” groups might suggest. Behind this doorway, you’ll not only find your tribe, but you’ll also find deep meaning (a la Jupiter in Pisces), and a sense of new direction (Uranus) that acknowledges your individuality and lights up your heart. Something you are EXCITED to work towards. Values and meaning are inextricably connected. 

This fire can either consume your vibrancy and joy  leaving you with ashes, or be the furnace that turns the lead in your life into gold. Either way you pay, so decide where you stand so that the accrued interest can return to you on the other side of all this.
