You are most certainly not the first person to question the compatibility of astrology and religion, in fact you are in great company. This question has led many down the rabbit holes of the occult, and into a the world of metaphysics and frequency. Quite frankly, it’s like Narnia. Once you’ve experienced life on the other side of the door, you cannot live in the “real” world the same way.
Yes, astrology does believe in, or rather allude to God. Astrology points to the existence and movement of a power that created and sustains everything. This power can be referred to as “God” as well as many other names such as Buddha, Creator, Christ, Allah, the Universe, Christ- consciousness etc.
Now, that being said, when we get into the details of the existence of God, astrology’s perspective has some important distinctions that need to be considered:
Astrology implies the existence of a creator.
This is where the biggest friction with astrology and religion lies.

Religion, specifically the Christian tradition, accepts the existence of a God who has many qualities, and the most notable one is that He is a male.
While astrology does recognize and allude to the existence of an all powerful presence who created everything, it does not attribute to that creator a specific gender identity.
Beyond that, while the path of religion suggests a type of exclusive path to God, astrology suggests that there are many equal paths to encountering and working with the Divine.
Specifically, in astrology we look to the archetype of Sagittarius, or the 9th house and also the planet Jupiter. This 9th house space represents our interactions with different cultures, traditions and cosmologies. Essentially, the 9th house represents our beliefs about life.
It is this 9th house space in a birth chart that will tell about the person’s specific journey regarding their faith and their religious and/ or cosmological beliefs.
Some placements (such as Saturn in the 9th house), would suggest a more traditional, likely Christian perspective towards questions of faith.
On the other hand, a placement like Aquarius in the 9th house would suggest a less traditional, more innovative approach to issues of faith and religion.
Astrology is a tool for aligning one’s self with the intentions of the Universe.
Astrology uses the study of the movement of the planets and celestial bodies as a mirror of the experiences of humans.
Clearly put, the planets themselves are NOT the forces that influence our lives. Rather, they are symbols that mirror the movement of the Universal energies that direct our lives.
So, when looking at a birth chart, the tool of astrology allows one to understand the evolutionary reasons behind what is happening in one’s life. Also, a birth chart allows an inside view into the subjective experience of the owner of the birth chart.
This understanding allows the owner of the birth chart to make life decisions that will support that evolutionary growth, and to understand their own natural mental and emotional tendencies.
The birth chart is a type of map of the person’s life and psyche, and the way that the Universe (or God) is desiring to express Themself through the life and experiences of the person at hand.
Astrology is at tool for understanding and connecting to natural law, and Universal law.

The term “universal law” is a reference to the precise order and inherent wisdom that is within the greater overarching power (God, Source, Allah etc.). This power created and sustains all of life and existence. This power orchestrates and synchronizes everything that exists, causing us to have a world that somehow works and moves in perfect harmony and unity.
One of the foundations of astrology is that natural law (the laws of nature) teaches us about universal law. So, the way that nature behaves teaches us about the laws of the Universe.
This is because nature is part of the universe, and the systems within nature are a microcosm of the macrocosm. (Meaning they are a miniature model of the larger universe.)
If we are looking to nature (nature being everything outside of ourselves that is not human), we can consider the planets and solar system to be one of the many parts of the natural world!
So the laws that nature lives by are also applicable to the solar system.
There are many natural phenomenons that the astrology world lines up with. Things such as the changes and movements of seasons (Aries marks the beginning of the zodiac with Spring etc etc), the movement/ placement of the sun and how that effects our life energy, how our expression and self perception affect each other (this is the phenomenon of the sun reflecting the moon both in nature and in our birth charts, symbolically speaking…) etc.
Also, we can look at the aspects that each sign makes to the other signs in the natural zodiac to teach us about how to carry on in life in the most harmonious way.
For example, the polarity between Aries (independence, initiation) and Libra (partnership, balance, harmony) teaches us about self vs. others. In order to efficiently and successfully initiate something new where we will learn about ourselves, we need to also keep in mind the people around us, remembering that support is sometimes needed and we must be conscious of those around us.
Or, we can think of the polarity between Cancer and Capricorn: inner world vs. outer world. This polarity tells us that the way that we build and establish our inner and emotional worlds will have a profound impact on the way that we are able to show up and contribute in the outer (collective) world.
These are just 2 examples, and of course with 12 zodiac signs and houses, there are many, many more examples of this principle.
Conclusion
So, as you can see, astrology does in fact believe in God. And yes, they can be friends.
This friendship must exist on a plane where both tradition and innovation have equal footing. This is the never ending struggle between the Capricorn realm of tradition, and the Aquarius realm of innovation. (Here’s an example of how this principle has manifested in the real world recently)
The difference between the God of religion and the God of astrology is that the latter does not put restrictions on what that higher being looks like or how it is that we must encounter and interact with Him/ Her/ Them. Astrology, inherently, implies the existence of a creator, and is a powerful tool that can help us to put ourselves in conscious alignment with the movements and intentions of our souls ie. the Universe.
We can use the wisdom of astrology to understand the world and put ourselves in a position where we can work with the natural flow of the world (instead of against it), which can make like a lot easier!
One of the most beautiful principles of astrology is that we are all expressions of the Divine. What this means is that rather than looking outside of ourselves (to a building, or a ritual or even a community), we can look inside ourselves to see and connect with the power that aligns and sustains the universe.

And also, you are the ocean in a droplet.
Magnificent, isn’t it?
